„We will find a BETTER and HIGHER PAYING job for Geox workers“

The Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated that workers of the Italian company Geox, which is leaving Vranje, will not lose their jobs, as state will find them better ones.

The prime minister stated that the departure of the Italian company Geox from Vranje was expected because, as she said, certain investors „due to the nature of their work“ go where salaries are the lowest, and Serbia, in her words, „is no longer a country of cheap labour force.“

Responding to the question of the independent MP Vladan Glisic about the fate of workers of that plant, prime minister said they would not lose their jobs, as state would find them „better ones“.

„These people have significant experience and references, and they will not lose their jobs. We will find better jobs for them and once we finish this, they will have higher salaries, the budget of Vranje will be higher. This is a normal transition,“ said the prime minister in the Serbian Parliament where she responds to MPs questions every last Thursday of the month.

She said that Serbia has been preparing for the departure of certain investors from Serbia „since 2016“.

„We knew that with the decline in unemployment rate, the problem with the labour force would start, so wages would start to increase because investors would fight for the labour force.“

You have investors who, due to the nature of their work, represent labour-intensive investments and who go where the lowest salaries are. Instead of them, investors will come who will pay our workers more, and that will happen in Vranje, said the prime minister.

Earlier, Glisic called for Serbia to connect to China, Russia and other countries whose investments, as he said, do not have a political price „in terms of blackmails that we will receive from Brussels and from the Western countries in general.“
