    Zijin „turns“ workers into gardeners

A dozen workers employed in the company Zijin (Serbia Zijin Copper) in Bor asked for the support of the trade union after the management of this Chinese company had offered them an annex to the employment contract on the basis of which they would be transferred from their previous jobs to the posts of „gardeners“.

As the website istmedia.rs finds out, the workers worked in the General Directorate of RTB Bor, the Smelter and Refinery, as well as the Bor Copper Mine, and they meet one of the conditions for retirement, they are close to retirement, or they worked in the work units that were shut down in the meantime.

According to the information obtained from the union activists, in addition to the change of jobs, their salaries will be reduced to the lowest coefficient, even though there are workers among them with a vocational school or university degrees.

Their dissatisfaction resulted in a meeting between the management of the Chinese company and the union, where the attention of the management of Zijin was drawn to the fact that that violated the Labour Act and the Collective Agreement.

The management of the majority owner of the former RTB Bor agreed, after the meeting, that the employment contracts should be checked, and in the meantime, the representatives of the Zijin trade union informed the Labour Inspectorate about this problem, from which they expect a quick reaction.

The workers who should be transferred to the position of a „gardener“ also expected to meet with the mayor of Bor, Aleksandar Milikic, but that meeting did not take place.

Some time ago, not far from the General Directorate of the company, Zijin set up greenhouses in which vegetables are grown, and it is assumed that these products are intended for a canteen that was built nearby.
